Years of Experience In Recruitment

Built on Recruitment Experience. Focused on Education.

Smart Education Recruitment is the education arm of Smart Recruitment. Our consultants already know how to brief a role, test a candidate and get someone started without wasting anyone’s time. We now apply that same approach to schools, colleges, higher education and universities.

Education hiring has its own rules: Qualified Teacher Status or QTLS where the post needs it, Keeping Children Safe in Education, DBS and barred-list checks, and a Single Central Record that has to be right. We work as a specialist independent agency, so the process stays personal. You speak to people who understand both the vacancy and the person who will fill it.

We recruit across England as our main market and support organisations and candidates UK-wide. Whether you need a permanent teacher or temporary classroom cover, the standard of screening does not change.

We work with graduates and LEA’s across Liverpool to help create lasting working relationships.

Recruitment for high schools

Subject teachers, pastoral roles, cover supervisors and classroom support — permanent or fixed-term. We match the brief to people who can teach the right age range and hold the right status for the post.

Recruitment for colleges and universities

Further education needs tutors with subject or industry expertise; universities need academic and professional-services staff who fit the institution. We search to the brief, not to a generic education template. (this service is coming soon!) Stay tunned for more information.

Opportunities for graduates

University leavers do not have to wait for a single “perfect” job advert. We help you into teacher training routes, unqualified or instructor roles while you train, support posts and first professional jobs in schools, colleges and higher education.

Temporary teaching and cover

Absence, a vacancy gap or a defined project should not leave a class uncovered. We source temporary teachers and education staff with safeguarding checks in place, and we can move a successful booking onto a permanent appointment when both sides want that.

What it is like to work with us

Step-01

Share your brief or CV

Employers tell us the role, dates, subject and setting. Candidates send a CV and the work they want, permanent, temporary, or either.

Step-02

A proper conversation

We do not fire CVs into the void. A short onboarding call confirms qualifications, availability, pay expectations and, for employers, what “the right person” actually looks like in your school or service.

Step-03

Matching with the right settings

We introduce candidates to high schools, local authorities, colleges and universities where the fit is real — phase, subject, location and contract type included.

Step-04

Placement and ongoing support

Checks, start dates and paperwork are handled before day one. After that we stay in touch, whether the booking is a week of cover or a permanent contract.

Where we concentrate our effort

Recruitment in education succeeds when the search is specific. A physics teacher in a high school, a vocational tutor in a college, a graduate ready for their first classroom, or temporary cover from Monday morning are different briefs. We treat them that way: source with intent, screen properly, and stay involved after the offer so the placement lasts.

Discover What Sets Us Apart

Quality Not Quantity

We are a specialist independent agency. You get a considered shortlist and a named contact, not a inbox full of unmatched CVs.

Permanent and temporary in one place

The same team fills standing vacancies and short-term cover. If temporary work should become a permanent post, the path is already in place.

Background Checks & Due Diligence

Identity, right to work, enhanced DBS and barred list for regulated activity, prohibition-from-teaching checks where they apply, and written confirmation for your Single Central Record. Safeguarding is part of the service, not an afterthought.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Recruitment Processes

Do you only recruit teachers?

No. Teaching is the core of the work, but we also recruit tutors, instructors, cover supervisors, teaching assistants and selected professional-services roles in schools, colleges and universities.

Do you offer permanent and temporary roles?

Yes. We handle permanent appointments and temporary or supply cover. Many people use temporary work as a route into a longer-term post.

I have just left university. Can you still help?

Yes. We advise on routes into teaching (including QTS training), first roles in schools and colleges, and support or instructor posts while you train. You do not need a full teaching qualification to register.

We are a high school / local authority. How do we start?

Send the vacancy or cover need — subject, key stage or department, contract type and dates. We brief, search, screen and return a shortlist.

Do candidates need QTS?

For most teaching posts in maintained schools in England, yes. Some academy, college and instructor roles have different requirements. We check the post before we put anyone forward.

How do you handle safeguarding?

To Keeping Children Safe in Education: identity, right to work, enhanced DBS with children’s barred list for regulated activity, prohibition checks for teaching work, references and overseas checks where someone has lived or worked abroad.

What does it cost to register as a candidate?

Nothing. Candidates register free. Employer fees are agreed before we start a search.
